Three benefits of taking a trip or staycation in summer

I’ve worked with countless leaders and executives who refused to take time off in the summer, and if they do, they make it a “working vacation,” which defeats the purpose of taking some well-deserved time away from the office.

When you are on vacation checking emails or working remotely brings you right back into work mode at the expense of being fully present with those around you. Disconnect from your job completely to get a full recharge.

Most managers probably have at least one team member who always resists using their entitled vacation time. It would help if you strongly encourage them to get some downtime this summer to avoid burnout or stress-related fatigue.

Summer vacation can benefit your productivity and creativity, physical and mental health, and workplace happiness, which is a great way to keep your top talent and support your team performing at a high level.

Here are three benefits of taking a trip or staycation in summer:

Reducing stress

We spend about one-third of our lives at work. Oftentimes we experience stress in the workplace, which can adversely affect your physical and mental health, causing anxiety, headaches, insomnia and depression in some cases. So, what’s the best antidote?

Vitamin D, swimming, reading, laughing, hiking and spending time with friends and family – or anything else that makes you happy. Vacations will allow you to recharge your batteries, relax, smile and reduce the negative symptoms caused by stress.

Boosting creativity

You need a change of scene and routine. I always get my best ideas or solutions to problems while I’m on vacation or just returned from one. Time away stimulates creativity and innovation, boosting your performance and problem-solving skills. Travelling to new places or trying new activities can spark your imagination and generate new ideas.

Improving relationships

Spending quality time with your friends and family matters. Shared experiences strengthen relationships and create lifelong memories. Managers should strive to encourage a healthy work-life balance, creating a positive work culture.

Of course, it’s up to you to take a vacation so others will book theirs without feeling guilty. Having the Out of Office reply gives others on your team a chance to step up their responsibility and gain valuable experience in new roles. It demonstrates your trust and will strengthen relationships with your colleagues, managers, and customers, which will benefit your business and team.

Taking summer vacation is essential for rest, creating memories, and beneficial to your overall well-being and work quality.
